Guide for activation, assembly and use

Have you just received your new floccs sign? We've rounded up what you need to know to get started!

All screws to mount the sign are included when you buy a floccs sign. Watch as Ellen Hammarström does an unboxing.

What you get when you buy a floccs sign

The Floccs sign comes in a stylish package and contains all the parts needed for you to mount the sign on the horse's stall door. What you get is the following:

  • Mirror plate with an NFC chip on the back
  • Transparent front plate with the floccs logo
  • Two spacers and four rubber rings
  • Two large screws
  • Two small screws

Read on to see how to activate, mount and use your sign.

During activation you choose which horses profile should be displayed. Check out the video where Ellen Hammarström activates her new floccs sign.

How to activate your floccs sign

1. Start by creating a profile for your horse on floccs or ask to join the team of the horse that has the floccs sign (if you haven't already).

2. Then go to the horse's floccs profile and press the three dots in the top right corner and press “activate floccs sign”.

3. Follow the instructions on the screen and press the activate button. Hold the top back of the mobile phone close to the sign (about 3-4 cm or closer) to read it. If it doesn't read the sign, slowly touch the phone to the sign.

4. If you have succeeded, you will be returned to the screen showing the message: floccs sign is now activated for your *horse's name*.

5. If you do not receive this message, you may need to try again. Where your NFC reader is located depends on which mobile phone model you have. Read more in our guide which mobile phones support NFC further down the page.

Hold the back of the mobile phone close to the sign (about 3-4 cm or closer) to tap it. See how Ellen goes directly to a floccs horse profile.

How to tap/read the floccs sign

Now that you've activated the sign, it's time to try it out! Please note that you must activate the sign for it to work.

  • Go to the mobile's home screen. Then hold the top back of the mobile phone close to the sign (about 3-4 cm or closer) to read it. If it doesn't read the sign, slowly touch the phone to the sign.
  • When the sign is read, the notice Floccs NFC Tag will appear. Click on it to take you to the horse's floccs profile. If you have installed the app, it will open. If have not installed the app and you click the sign, you will arrive on the horse's web profile.

Watch the video when Ellen puts up the sign on the horse's stall. Take out the screwdriver and work hard.

How to mount the sign on the horse's stall

Now that everything works, it's time to mount the sign.

  • Take out the transparent piece and choose a place where the horse cannot reach it. Mark the large holes with a pencil so you know where to screw.
  • Take out your two small screws and your two spacers. Insert the small screw into the spacer. Then screw in the spacer at your mark using a screwdriver. Make sure the spacer is firmly in place. Repeat for the other side. Pre-drill the holes if necessary.
  • Then remove the mirror plate and the transparent piece from the box. Put these together so that the mirror is shown and so that the floccs logo is facing outward.
  • Take out the large screws and put them through both pieces.
  • Place two rubber rings on each screw on the back of the sign.
  • Place the large screws against the spacers and tighten the screws by hand until the sign is firmly in place.

Which mobile phones support NFC?

Have you ever paid with your mobile via tap? Then you have already used NFC! We have listed the most common mobile phones so you know how your mobile works. Note that you must activate your floccs sign (ie. add the link to the horses profile) in order to read it. The sign comes without any link in itself, so there is nothing to worry about if you have not activated the sign. See how to activate the sign in the instructional video further up the page.

iPhone- models that work

Almost all iPhones have an NFC reader that can read the floccs sign at the top of the back of the phone. Therefore, hold the upper part of the phone (about 3-4 cm or closer) against the floccs sign when you want to activate or blink the sign. If it doesn't read the sign, slowly touch the phone to the sign.

iPhone XS, X, 11 up to iPhone 14- YES

Here it's just a matter of tapping! Hold the top of the back of the phone near the floccs sign to activate or read the sign.

iPhone 7, 8 up to iPhone XR- YES

With the iPhone 7 up to the iPhone XR, you have to open the Control Center to bring up your NFC reader. With these phones, the NFC reader must be opened when you want to activate or read the sign. Follow the steps below:

  • Swipe down to open the Control Center.
  • Tap the NFC tag icon to activate it.
  • Simply hold your iPhone close to the floccs sign for your mobile phone to read it.
  • If you can't find the NFC icon, you can add NFC via the Settings app.

To add an NFC tag reader via the Settings, follow the steps below:

  • Open the Settings.
  • Click Control Center and search for NFC tag reader.
  • Tap the green plus sign next to it to add it to the Control Center.
  • Follow steps 1 and 2 above.

iPhone 6 and later models - NO

Unfortunately, these models do not support reading NFC tags even though some older models support NFC payments. If you would still like to activate or read your sign, you can use the help of a team member with a newer phone. Anyone in the horses team can activate the horse's sign.

Android- models that work

The vast majority of newer Android mobiles (models from 2020 onward) support NFC. If you have an Android, you may need to activate NFC in the mobile's settings. There are a number of different brands and models, but on an Android, the NFC reader is often in the middle of the back of the phone. Therefore, hold the center of the back of the mobile phone (approx. 3-4 cm or closer) against the floccs sign when you want to activate or read the sign. If it doesn't read the sign, slowly touch the phone to the sign.

Samsung and Sony manufactured from 2020 onward support NFC. You can google your particular phone and NFC to find out if your mobile supports NFC.
